A birthday cake with 100 wishes | News, Sports, Jobs

Teruko Okafuji waves her hand to say “enough picture-taking already” after posing for a family photo during her 100th birthday celebration at the University of Hawaii Maui College on Saturday evening. She is flanked by daughters Carol Suda (right) and Marilyn Au Hoy. Okafuji was born July 7, 1915, in Puunene, raised in McGerrow Camp and attended Puunene School. She and husband Motoharu Okafuji had six children. She now has 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Still mentally sharp, she credits her longevity to keeping busy with activities like gateball, walking and doing all kinds of crafts. While she never smoked or drank, her favorite indulgences are ice cream and chocolates.
